Quality Disposable Needle Probes are Easy to Use

Along with Micromanipulator’s broad range of exceptional probe stations, we also design and manufacture a selection of high-quality disposable needle probes.  We recognize that many of our customers prefer to use disposable needle probes as they can be easily replaced and eliminate the downtime spent in re-sharpening a probe.

To ensure we have a disposable needle probe that is right for your application, we manufacture a range of tips suitable for general probing; low resistance; high power; sub-micron targets; compliant, thermal applications; delicate target or surface; cutting and more.  By providing our option of disposable probes, we can meet your measurement equipment interface requirements and application demands as well as offer probes that meet personal preferences and budgetary concerns.  Bear in mind we also have high-quality probe holders with built-in probe tips if you prefer.

On our website you will find a selection of fine-tip, general purpose probe tips, gold plated, sputter platinum, small targets with ‘C’ bend, tungsten carbide, small targets, heavy duty needle, low compact resistance, and more.  Most of our needle probes are made from tungsten or nickel shanks with tungsten tips and are designed to address most probing applications.

Furthermore, if your application calls for high conductance probe tips (HCT), we have a good selection.  HCT tips are specifically designed to increase tip conductance and reduces the probe scrub that is needed by a factor of 5 or more.   We recommend that you take a look at our Models 7A, 7B, 7F, 7G, 7X or our alternate radius tip probes if your need HCT capabilities and just add HCT to your part number when you order.

Micromanipulator is a global company and we sell and support our products worldwide.  Contact us if you need help finding what you need and we will be happy to assist you.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we are the leading name in the field and reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semi-conductor industry depends on. Our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to our customers’ satisfaction. You will find one of the most comprehensive ranges of probe stations on the market as well the consumables, accessories and on-site support you need.

Hot Stage Probing Techniques Discussed in our Application Notes

The Micromanipulator Company takes great pride in manufacturing the finest equipment available for probing small geometries.  In addition, we spend considerable energy on trying to solve application problems, of which our customers can find comprehensive information on a range of topics under our Application Notes.

One example we discuss in detail is “Hot Stage Probing Techniques” and the problem of using a hot stage for elevated temperature probing or CV measurement.  Micromanipulator explores the issue of movement of a device under the probe and the probe point due to thermal expansion. Furthermore, we present a solution for the relatively common probing dilemma of maintaining probe contact during temperature stressing of wafers, which can compound the natural difficulties already associated with probing.  Our Application Note is a thorough analysis of the causes and effects of the problem while offering an equipment solution.

Part of our advice includes discussing the merits of several of our probe holders and the advantages each one offers.   As with all forms of probing small geometries, we suggest that, “a little technique can go a long way” and that with some experimenting, each operator will find the most suitable probing angle and/ or technique.

We provide a few easy to follow guidelines that include:  probe as close to vertical as possible; use a 7F style probe tip with a small diameter and one that is as long as possible; when making probe contact, continue lowering the probe until bowing or flexure of probe tip is seen.  Also we recommend that users verify bowing by using a little X or Y-motion of manipulator or stage.  Be sure the probe contact follows the motion and stays on the target site.  Our last suggestion is to remind users that practice will make it better.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we remain the leading name in the field.  As such we reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semiconductor industry depends on.  As part of our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to customers’ satisfaction.  We invite you to contact us to find out more about our wide range of probe stations, accessories and consumables.
