Accessories Designed to Enhance Your Probe Station’s Performance

9.22.15
The Micromanipulator Company combines 60+ years of analytic probing experience with state-of-the-art design, testing and manufacturing capabilities. We proudly offer a comprehensive selection of probe stations and a wide range of accessories to give customers more choices than they will find anywhere else, and many with technological advancements not available through other manufacturers.

Our accessories are smartly designed to enhance your probe station’s performance and help you achieve the type of results you can count on.  One example of our innovative products is our Vibration Isolated Station with Rigid Mount Light Tight Enclosure.  The assembly allows the probe station to be supported on the vibration isolated surface while the light tight enclosure is mounted on a rigid surface (the vibration isolation table guard rails).  As a system user, you will appreciate the fact that the floating vibration isolated surface is not disturbed when the LTE doors are opened.  In addition the LTE setup means it is easier to both install and remove the probe station itself.

The unit includes access holes in the bottom plate, which come with rubber “light shielding boots” that fit around the inner table’s extendable legs to prevent light leakage through the hole.  Your probe station sits on the inner platform that rests on the vibration isolated surface.

Along with vibration isolation, Micromanipulator also specializes in thermal management and flexibility as well as open architectures and material selections, high-quality microscopes, manipulators, DC and RF measurement hardware.  In fact our cutting-edge technology allows system users to focus on data, not the prober.  Please visit our website to learn more about The Micromanipulator Company, our products and our exceptional customer service. We welcome questions and inquiries into our products and will do our best to assist you in whatever way we can.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we are leaders in the field and reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semi-conductor industry depends on. Our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to our customers’ satisfaction. Purchase a Probe Station from a Company with a History in the Industry!

Wafer Probes

The Micromanipulator name is known throughout the world for designing, engineering and manufacturing reliable and highly innovative semiconductor testing needs.  This is the reason our customers remain loyal to our company and our products and have kept us an industry leader for many, many years.

Not only was our company started way back in 1956 but our products have grown along with the industry.  What were once belt-driven stages have now been developed into high resolution lead screw / lead nut designs that offer the best positioning resolution available on the market today.  We have also been around to see the evolution of microscopes grow from magnifications of just a few hundreds to our tools of today that support microscope magnifications of more than 2000X.

The Micromanipulator team was there to pioneer the integration of thermal chucks with probe stations; and we still continue to lead the field by offering the broadest temperature range on the market today.  We also are proud to provide our customers with the most advanced, non-operator dependent performance available anywhere.

However in spite of all of our accomplishments throughout the years, we have never lost sight of the fact that our customers’ success is the only metric by which we measure our own success.  This philosophy is the heart of Micromanipulator and core to our corporate values and is what drives our business.

Please see our website for more information regarding the Micromanipulator Company and our two outstanding brands.  Leading the line-up is our high performance, efficient Micromanipulator analytical probe stations and accessories designed for both wafer level and decapsulated packaged part probing.  Our budget-friendly Mechatronics, while only a few years old, has quickly become a popular choice for system users requiring reliable, economical tools that are easy to use and easy to learn.

Consumables Designed by the Experts

Manual Probe Station

The Micromanipulator Company is pleased to offer our customers not only the best line-up of premium wafer probe stations but one of the most comprehensive selections of consumables on the market.  This range of products allows you to outfit your new probe station to suit both your personal preferences and application or equipment interface requirements as well as stay within budget.

As we have been in the industry for over 60 years, we have learned a thing or two about analytical probing; and right from the start, we have listened closely to our customers in order to develop products that meet their needs.  To ensure optimal performance of our equipment, our consumables include a wide selection of probe holders such as active probe holders and high frequency probe holders as well as ones with integrated tips.  We also carry probe tips in a range of materials and sizes.

Our Model 72 Series Probe Holders have a malleable 1-4” shaft and a set screw probe tip holder.  They are designed to work with all Micromanipulator manipulators (order separately) and 7-series tips, which are also sold separately.  The 72 series’ lead wire terminates in a circular eye connector with an approximately 1/16 inch (1.6mm) hole for connection to measurement instruments.  The malleable shaft lets you shape it as needed. If you need another length other than the 1 to 4” size available on online, please email us.

Our 79 Series Coaxial Probe Holders are a coaxially shielded probe holder, which is ideal for measurements of high frequency or low level signals.  They offer a 30″ long signal wire with male coaxial connector for connection to measurement instruments and come in total body lengths of 1-7/8” or 3-1/8”.

Micromanipulator’s 79-6000-TD-03 Kelvin Triaxial Probe Holders have a two tubular body construction that is perfect for applications where platen space is at a premium and contact space is difficult or limited.  The probe holder’s single point eliminates the problem of planarity and contact uniformity as well as the need and expense of two probe holders and two manipulators. Please see our website for more information on our full line of probe holders and probe tips.

At Micromanipulator, we not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but are still the top name in the field.  As such we reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semiconductor industry depends on. A key part of our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to customers’ satisfaction.  Please contact us to find out more about our exceptional selection of wafer probe stations, accessories and consumables.

Tips for Dealing with Uncontrolled Movement When Probing

At the Micromanipulator Company, we have always based our success on that of our customers. By listening (and learning) to our customers, we have been able to explore and develop solutions to a range of common and sometimes not so common problems encountered during the wafer probing process.

One such problem is uncontrolled movement that causes the probe to slide or jump off its contact when using a hot stage at extremely elevated temperatures or for CV measurement. (You will find detailed information on this topic in one of Application Notes under our website’s “About” tab.) While likely due to thermal expansion, research has found that for every 100 ºC temperature change, the movement may account for as much as one mil at any given location. On a six or eight-inch wafer, this type of movement may affect your testing results.

As a way to solve these problems, we offer equipment solutions such as our high compliance 7F probe point. The 7F’s very fine wire tip flexes and is designed to follow a target device as it moves in the X, Y, Z axes. The high temperature, bendable shank and tip offers the largest radius for probe contact as well as the shortest conical taper length to minimize the skating or slipping effect of the probe tip on the wafer site. Using it with a small amount of flexure on the tip and at the near vertical angle of about 80o ± 5o, it is steep enough for the application and still visible under the microscope.

Micromanipulator works hard to find solutions to application problems and is proud to bring customers the finest equipment on the market for probing small geometries. For your convenience, the 7F Tungsten Cat Whisker Probe Tip is available at our online store. Please visit our website to see our full line of probe tips and probe holders as well as our probe stations and accessories.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we are the leading name in the field and reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semiconductor industry depends on. Our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to our customers’ satisfaction. You will find one of the most comprehensive ranges of probe stations on the market as well the consumables, accessories and on-site support you need.

Helpful Guidelines for Successful Low Level Measurements

Micromanipulator wants our customers to succeed, which is why we design high-quality products for a wide range of applications.  We also understand it is important to provide information on each product and to be available to answer our customers’ questions.  For technical details and troubleshooting, we offer a variety of pdfs and Application Notes.

One of our Application Notes deals with “The Basics of Low Current Probing.”  Included in the comprehensive discussion are common problems users run into with low current probing, and suggestions for how to solve them.  The document summarizes a list of helpful guidelines for successful low level measurements.

We start by reminding users to pay attention to details as the nature of the very small physical values being observed mean there are a variety of factors that can interfere with the desired measurements.  Micromanipulator’s experts recommend getting into the habit of reviewing and practicing preventive measures to eliminate problems before they occur.

We also offer a tip on how to diagnose noise sources and to minimize their effects.  Since analog time domain measurement techniques are not readily available for direct observation at femtoampere levels, this can be challenging.  One of our suggestions is to use a parametric tester that is configured to provide a sampled sweep of current versus time with a constant source voltage.

Another area we discuss is system grounds, shields and connections.  We provide a couple diagrams that show the ideal grounding, shielding and connection scheme for surface to surface and surface to substrate current measurements.

You will also find information regarding exploit filtering and averaging available in the instrument.  We suggest parametric measurements such as subthreshold and TDDL that lend themselves to filtering and averaging.  In addition our guidelines handle topics such as guarding and settling time, cable isolation and noise, and cleanliness.  See our website to read the full report and to see our full line of high-quality probe stations and accessories.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we are leaders in the field and reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semi-conductor industry depends on. Our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to our customers’ satisfaction. At Micromanipulator our team is invested in designing, testing and manufacturing a range of probe stations as well as smartly designed consumables and accessories to meet our customers’ every need.  Right from our company’s start, we have measured our success by the success of our customers.  This philosophy is at the heart of Micromanipulator, and core to our corporate values as well as the motivation that drives our business.

We make a point of actively listening and learning from our customers, and then taking that information to produce the type of creative solutions our customers require.  It is one of the reasons we offer such a large selection of wafer probers ranging from Specialty, Semi-automatic, and High-performance to our General-purpose Manual and Economy Manual models.  It is also why we continue to research and develop our line of exclusive accessories and consumables.

Micromanipulator’s “solutions engineering” is responsible for creating probe stations that place the burden of performance on system operators, allowing them to focus on their data, not the prober.  We also provide the industry with advanced technologies that incorporate a systems approach to integration for thermal management; vibration isolation; flexible, open architectures; and materials selections.

Our solutions engineering also includes producing the exclusive H1000 series thermal wafer chuck that leads the wafer probing industry with the best planarity, lowest noise, and lowest cost.  Our systems support wafer testing from -65 to 400 degrees C, and we offer several configurations to fit your application and budget.  Other examples of Micromanipulator listening to customers is realized in our line of high conductance probe tips (HCT) manufactured specifically to increase tip conductance, while at the same time reducing the probe scrub needed by a factor of 5 or more.

As a customer of Micromanipulator, you will receive support services from our worldwide network of experience engineers who will provide “system level” support for your entire system from optics to thermal chucks.  Check out our website to learn more about how our services and products continue to set us apart from our competitors.

Micromanipulator not only invented analytical probing in 1956 but we are leaders in the field and reliably deliver the tools and life cycle support the semi-conductor industry depends on. Our company’s philosophy and what drives our success is an unfaltering commitment to our customers’ satisfaction.
